Following the huge success of last year, the Kaupthing Bank sponsored Gala Tour De France 2008 surpassed all expectations.
Kaupthing Bank Luxembourg provided a VIP hospitality village which catered for many distinguished guests including politicians, business executives, sport stars and selected guests.
The race was graced by the presence of Luxembourg City mayor, Paul Hemlinger, City Councilor, Anne Brasseur, and Kaupthing Deputy CEO Bjorn Jonsson, who started the criterium road race in which both professional and amateur cyclists competed.
The crowd of more than 35,000 spectators of all age groups were treated to a high class event, which included Luxembourg’s own top class professional cyclists Andy & Frank Schleck, Kim Kirchen and Benoit Joachim, still fresh from their heroic exploits in the Tour de France.
The streets were awash with colour and atmosphere during the historical Tour De France parade which was held in honour of the Luxembourgish cyclist Charly Gaul. The spectators enjoyed the racing, music and beer stands while soaking up the incredible atmosphere of the evening.
